Title: "India Pioneers Universal Charging Standard for Light Electric Vehicles with BIS and NITI Aay

In a groundbreaking achievement, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and India's National Standard Body have given their official approval to the world's very first standard for AC and DC Combined Charging connectors designed specifically for light electric vehicles.

This remarkable feat was made possible through the collaborative efforts of BIS, NITI Aayog, the Department of Science and Technology, ARAI, and leading electric vehicle manufacturers. Their collective work has resulted in a national standard that promises to revolutionize the charging landscape for a wide range of light electric vehicles, encompassing electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and microcars.

Unlike the larger and more costly charging connectors primarily intended for four-wheelers, these lighter vehicles come with unique charging requirements, necessitating a tailored solution. The introduction of a universal AC and DC charging connector represents a pivotal moment, enabling a cost-effective and interoperable charging infrastructure capable of accommodating both fast and slow charging.

B V R Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, expressed the significance of this milestone, stating, "Given that over 75% of new vehicles sold in India are two or three-wheelers, we have established a standard that has a profound impact on the largest segment of the vehicle market. The harmonious collaboration of various government bodies and private sector OEMs has made this remarkable achievement possible."
