Tata Motors' Proactive Pursuit of Safety Excellence in Next-Gen Tiago and Tigor Models

In the contemporary landscape of prioritizing safety standards in the automotive industry, Tata Motors is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring enhanced safety in its vehicles. Mohan Savarkar, the Chief Product Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, highlights the company's enduring dedication to safety, tracing back to 1997 when they established an in-house crash test lab in Pune, predating the launch of the Indica.

Looking forward, Tata Motors is setting ambitious goals by aiming for a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) for its upcoming generation of Tiago and Tigor models. Savarkar views BNCAP as a pivotal benchmark, underscoring the necessity of providing six airbags as a prerequisite for achieving this rating.

While Tata's recent SUV releases already feature six airbags as a standard, the imminent revamp of entry-level models like the Tiago and Tigor prompts a reevaluation of safety features, with a particular focus on incorporating six airbags as a standard provision.

The regulatory landscape in India is undergoing changes, with initial discussions about mandating six airbags in all new cars evolving into a voluntary approach under the BNCAP regime. Tata Motors is proactively aligning with these evolving safety standards and meeting customer demands.

Beyond passive safety measures, Tata Motors is increasingly directing its attention to active safety systems designed to prevent accidents. Savarkar underscores the significance of Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as a foundational step towards Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including features like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA).

India's road safety landscape is a complex narrative, influenced by factors such as improved road infrastructure and increased city speeds, highlighting the importance of safer vehicles. Heightened public awareness about road safety practices also plays a crucial role. Savarkar acknowledges the changing consumer mindset, where safety considerations are becoming integral to purchasing decisions, particularly with the growing popularity of SUVs in the market.

The upcoming generation of Tiago and Tigor models is expected to undergo significant changes, featuring a new platform and adopting the latest design language with stylish elements. Anticipate a comprehensive list of new features, including enhanced safety measures, as Tata Motors strives to uphold its commitment to safer mobility.
