Revolutionizing Fuel Efficiency: Tata Motors Unveils Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT Variants with Smart CNG Technology
Tata Motors has introduced the industry's first CNG AMT variants for the Tiago and Tigor models, priced from Rs. 7.89 lakhs (ex-showroom). The AMT versions carry a premium of approximately Rs. 60,000 over their manual counterparts.
The Tiago iCNG AMT is offered in XTA, XZA+, and XZA NRG variants, while the Tigor iCNG AMT comes in XZA and XZA+ variants. These new models are presented in fresh color options, including Tornado Blue for the Tiago, Grassland Beige for Tiago NRG, and Meteor Bronze for the Tigor.
Both cars share the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine generating 72 BHP at 6000 RPM and 95 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM in CNG mode. In petrol mode, the engine delivers 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque. Equipped with a 5-speed AMT in addition to the standard 5-speed manual transmission, these variants feature twin-cylinder CNG tanks strategically placed beneath the luggage areas to optimize boot space. The single ECU ensures smooth transitions between petrol and CNG modes, with both cars starting directly in CNG mode for added convenience and fuel savings.
The iCNG technology incorporates safety measures, including a micro switch that turns off the ignition when the fuel lid is opened, resuming only when securely closed. In case of a thermal incident, the system immediately cuts off CNG supply to the engine and releases gas from the cylinder into the atmosphere through a special nozzle.
