Maruti Suzuki Achieves Milestone with 10 Lakh Automatic Vehicle Sales

maruti suzuki

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest automaker, has reached a significant milestone by selling over 10 lakh automatic vehicles. The company has played a pivotal role in popularizing automatic transmission technology in the Indian automotive market. Currently, Maruti Suzuki offers four distinct automatic transmission systems across its portfolio of 16 models.

A key factor contributing to this achievement was the introduction of Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology in 2014, which quickly gained favor among customers. Presently, AGS-equipped vehicles make up a significant 65 percent of Maruti Suzuki's automatic car sales. Furthermore, 27 percent of the company's automatic sales are attributed to models equipped with 4-speed Automatic Transmission (AT), with an additional 8 percent coming from Hybrid e-CVT transmission models.

Maruti Suzuki is poised to achieve one lakh automatic transmission vehicle sales for the fiscal year 2023-24. According to their analysis, customers at Nexa show a preference for high-end automatic variants, while Arena customers tend to opt for mid-variants. Currently, Nexa accounts for approximately 58 percent of automatic car sales, with Arena contributing the remaining 42 percent.

The regions of Delhi & NCR, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, and Kerala play a significant role as the largest contributors to automatic car sales for Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki offers a variety of automatic transmissions, including the 5-speed AGS gearbox available in models like Alto K-10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, and Fronx. The 4-speed automatic transmission is offered in the Jimny and Ciaz. The 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters can be found in the Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Grand Vitara. Additionally, the e-CVT technology is available in the Intelligent Electric Hybrid models of the Grand Vitara and Invicto.
