Kia Sonet's Sunroof Surprise: Expanding Appeal in the Compact SUV Arena
Kia India is gearing up to expand its presence in the fiercely contested compact SUV segment by introducing two fresh variants for the Sonet. This strategic move is part of the automaker's endeavor to appeal to a wider customer base and bolster its sales performance.
The forthcoming variants, labeled as HTE (O) and HTK (O), will offer both petrol and diesel engine options. A notable highlight of these additions is the inclusion of an electrically adjustable sunroof, a feature traditionally associated with higher trim levels. This signifies a significant departure as customers will now have the opportunity to enjoy the open-air experience even in the lower variants of the Sonet.
In addition to the sunroof, the HTK (O) trim will feature additional enhancements such as LED-connected tail lamps, automatic climate control, and a rear defogger.
Kia currently offers the HTE and HTK as entry-level trims, priced at Rs. 7.99 lakhs and Rs. 8.79 lakhs (ex-showroom) respectively. With the addition of the sunroof and a few more features, one can anticipate a slightly more premium pricing.
Presently, the Kia Sonet lineup comprises seven variants, catering to diverse preferences and budgets. Engine choices include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol, available with various transmission options including manual, automatic, iMT, and DCT gearboxes.
By introducing these new entry-level variants packed with additional features, Kia aims to broaden its customer base and strengthen its position in the fiercely competitive compact SUV segment.
Competing with stalwarts like Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300, Kia faces increasing competition, with Skoda also in the pipeline to launch a new compact SUV in this segment by next year in India.
